Gothic Clamshell Gauntlets – 16-Gauge Steel (Pair)
Purpose-built for reenactment, stage, LARP, and display, this pair of clamshell gauntlets combines handsome Gothic lines with rugged battlefield utility. The interlocking plates are riveted and lamed for smooth movement from fist to wrist, while fluted ridges add both strength and period aesthetics. Two exterior leather straps with brass buckles secure each gauntlet to your forearm; additional palm and thumb straps synchronize the movement of the plates with your grip. The included separate suede gloves serve as comfortable, replaceable liners.
In the 15th century, German and Central European armorers perfected the Gothic style: elegant fluting, pointed cuffs, and articulated lames that maximized protection without sacrificing mobility. Clamshell gauntlets—named for the overlapping plates that “shell” over the back of the hand—became a hallmark of the period, seen on knights and men-at-arms from tournament lists to the battlefield.
