Uesugi Katana by Paul Chen / Hanwei

Price: $445.00

The Uesugi Katana features a 27.25-inch (69.22 cm) blade forged from T10 high-speed tool steel, renowned for its durability and sharpness. The blade showcases a beautiful satin finish and is clay tempered, resulting in a differential hardness of 60 HRC at the edge and 40 HRC at the back, ensuring both cutting power and flexibility.

The katana's aesthetics are equally impressive, with an embossed likeness of Uesugi Kenshin on the blade, faithfully reproduced from Japanese artwork. The fuchi and kashira (handle collar and pommel) are blackened with elegant gold detailing, while gold dragon menuki (handle ornaments) adorn the black cotton-wrapped handle, which covers genuine ray skin. A matte black textured saya (scabbard) completes the sword's understated yet refined appearance.

Uesugi Kenshin, born Nagao Kagetora, rose from humble beginnings to become one of feudal Japan's most respected daimyo during the Sengoku period. Known for his military prowess, administrative reforms, and honorable conduct, Kenshin's rivalry with Takeda Shingen is legendary. Their most famous encounter at the Battle of Kawanakajima showcased Kenshin's innovative military tactics.
